Pictures from Sand Rock, Al

Unfortunately Sand Rock is the poster child for bad habits and bad anchors. Many people who climb there don't know how to properly set up Top Ropes or extend fixed anchors. Just when you think you have seen it all from extreme angles, non redundant systems, or blindly trusting sketchy fixed anchors next to bomber natural or gear protection, there is always another  Darwin Candidate who amazes me.

Below are some pictures taken at Sand Rock of examples where people should know better. TR'ing directly through anchors is a selfish, greedy practice that prematurely wears them out. Furthermore there are several anchors that are starting to wallow out the sandstone. With all that said, Sand Rock has some awesome climbs to offer, including TRAD, sport, and bouldering.

I'll periodically add pictures as I collect them.

TR'ing Through Hardware Store Cold Shunts    Those quick draws clipped to the climber are a great accessory item, that is since they are not being used in the anchor.
