Notes about benchmark data:
- All numbers are in seconds.
- pbc = pipeline burst cache
- Matlab numbers generated from bench.m M-file. 'lu' is lu decomposition, 'sparse' is sparse matrices.
- Matlab 4.2c and 5.0 bench.m tests can be compared except for 3-D test.
- AutoCAD 12 numbers timed with a stopwatch.

- Winbench 3.1 and Norton 6.0 sysinfo.exe are older programs but are used for historical purposes.
- Sysinfo.exe: a 1 equals the speed of an Intel 8088 8 MHz (old IBM PC/XT).
- PCBench 9.0 and Winbench are current programs from Ziff-Davis Publishing's ZDBOP group.
- Sysinfo and PCBench both run under DOS.
- Both Winbench's run under windows. Winbench 3.1 is run under Win 3.1. Winbench 96 is 32 bit program.

Comments and thanks

Different benchmarks, such as Winbench 96 and 97, cannot be compared to each other. Only indexes from the same benchmark can be compared.

Additions are very welcome. Simply run the tests and email them to me.

Thanks to Dave M., Klaus O., Dave C., Leigh M., and from the internet, Ryan R. and Gerben R. for their contributions to the list.
