Robust tuning of industrial regulators based on standard (step-response) identification techniques

A standard technique for the tuning of industrial regulators is based on the analysis of the step response of the plant. However, additional analysis of the step response allows to extract information useful to deduce a frequency-domain bound on the model errors. P.Rocco is studying this problem, with the aim of finding simple tuning rules for PID regulators based on robust control concepts. Some results have already been found on the correlations between some error indexes associated to the step response and the corresponding error bound.
