Fun Things

When I'm not busy with research, there are a couple things I particularly like doing. Here are some of the more photogenic examples of things I do with my spare time.

Travel

I've been fortunate enough to have been able to visit a number of places since my youth. While in college, I was lucky enough to have two summer internships in Germany through DAAD programs, further granting me the opportunity to travel across Europe and to experience the country as a young professional rather than as a tourist or student. Here are some pictures from places that I've particularly enjoyed.

Outdoors

I like doing things outside, and -- as with travelling -- I have some pretty pictures as a result.

Web Design

You've likely figured out by now that I also enjoy web design, though not in any professional sense. I started building webpages (for fun, or for relatives and family friends) in early high school. Every few years, I update myself on the newest tools and capabilities and make a new site. My earliest pages were done in Dreamweaver, then I spent a while just writing things in html/css, and played around with asp and php. I had my own domain name (with a cpanel and standard controls) for a while, and was also the webmaster for my college's orchestra for a bit (though that website has since been taken offline and replaced with a poorly constructed wix page). This website was my first foray into design with Bootstrap and jQuery -- and it is amazing. It's really astonishing how much more accessible css becomes to someone like myself with a good knowledge of coding, but minimal experience relative to professionals. Below are some of my past websites that are still online. Since this has really been a long-term hobby, the styles and skill-level vary quite a bit.

Odds and Ends

There are a few other things I think are fun and worth highlighting, but since they aren't easily categorized, I've just grouped them all together in one slide show. I'll let the captions explain the rest.
